Education

Nakoa Foundation

The Nakoa Foundation examines the Hawaiian sailing canoe from the forest to the ocean to inspire a thirst for knowledge, promoting good decision-making, self-reliance, sustainability and competent Hawaiian leaders.  Our focus is to create a sense of place and develop the intellectual skills and cultural values needed to navigate life’s challenges.

Na Pe'a

Na Pe`a  (The Sails) Sailing into the future

The Na Pe’a program is a collaboration between the Nakoa Foundation and the National Park Service’s Ala Kahakai National Historic Trail.  It is designed to teach youth the fundamentals of sound leadership and effective stewardship of land and marine resources through the use of traditional Hawaiian sailing canoes.  It is also designed to perpetuate traditions and practices of Native Hawaiians associated with the Hawaiian Canoe.

Join our Na Pe’a Keiki (www.napea.info) as they learn to navigate the waters of the Kona Coast and follow Hokule’a and Hikianalia on their World Wide Voyage (www.hokulea.com).
